About
Liberalism, DEI, and “just be kind” all propose different ways to be “anti-racist” or at least, “not racist.” As Guanté wrote, “White supremacy is not the shark; it’s the water.” Embodied Somatic Abolitionism is embodied anti-racism, with a box of “toys” and a system of reps for settling the white body when confronted with new, challenging, or unpleasant realities, moral injury, or trauma responses.
LEARN
In this course you will:
- Learn what Embodied Somatic Abolitionism is and isn’t (hint: It’s not a way to escape or bypass your body).
- Learn about trauma, how it resides in the body, and how that unresolved trauma keeps us stuck at best and dangerous at worst.
- Learn about your body’s six intelligences or VIMBASIs.
- Use “toys” and reps to settle and resource the body when trauma arises.
- Confront the ways in which people in your culture absorb, uphold, and deploy white-body supremacy.
- Examine your biases of anti-Blackness and Indigenous invisibility.
- Learn ways to heal trauma in the self, in the community, and maybe the world.
- Work closely with two other people in an assigned triad to practice and reflect on the essentials of Embodied Somatic Abolitionism.
